Aurrigo Autonomous Baggage Dolly

Aurrigo take home ‘Innovator Award’ from the Heathrow Clean Vehicles Partnership Awards 2019

Recognised for the implementation of our autonomous ‘smart dolly’ at Terminal 5, Heathrow Airport, Aurrigo proudly receive the ‘Innovator Award’ from the Clean Vehicles Partnership Awards 2019.

Innovator Award 2019

Each year, the Heathrow CVP Awards celebrates 4 different award categories: Champion Award, Improver Award, Innovator Award and Leadership Award. All recognising achievements in fleet emission reductions as part of a collective mission to make airside operations greener and more efficient.

The annual awards ceremony, hosted at Heathrow, celebrates the hard work and dedication brought about by a number of technology businesses based in the UK who manufacture mobility solutions for the aviation industry.

‘Smart dolly’ trial

Alongside a collaboration with International Airlines Group (IAG), British Airways (BA). and Heathrow Airport, the Aurrigo team successfully trialled the smart dolly at both T5C and T5B at Terminal 5, transporting baggage carrying bins from bin stores to baggage halls.

The smart dolly has been designed to reduce passenger waiting times by speeding up the time taken to transport luggage around the airport. Having already completed two phases of the trialling this year, the dolly is set to enter the next phase at Terminal 5 in early 2020.

Aurrigo, who are best known for providing first and last mile transportation solutions using self-driving people-moving pods, have found that the aviation industry was a great fit. Airports have the requirement to move vast numbers of people, goods, baggage and a variety of other materials around a huge site and autonomous technology can provide the aviation industry with a solution that has zero emissions and massively increased efficiencies.

The Heathrow CVP awards, which took place last Friday, provided companies with an opportunity to share technological expertise and provide a space to collaborate with other companies with similar goals for the aviation industry.
