The next generation of driverless cars will be unveiled tomorrow before they make their way to shopping centres and airports. RDM Group, which is heavily involved in the Government-backed LUTZ and UK AutoDrive projects, is set to reveal its new Pod Zero range of vehicles.

RDM Group, which is heavily involved in the LUTZ and UK Autodrive projects, is currently in talks with shopping centres, airports and local authorities to supply driverless pods for transporting people and cargo.

The car still needs a “brain”. This will come in the form of an autonomous control system called Mercury, developed by Oxford University’s Mobile Robotics Group, that uses cameras, laser and radars to scan streets for hazards like cars, people, bikes and curbs.

Bringing driverless vehicles to the pavements of the UK has helped RDM Group beat off the challenge of tens of companies to secure one of the major Coventry Telegraph Business Awards. The ambitious firm, which is on course to hit £10m sales this year, was named as the best Technology and Digital business in the region last week in front of over 300 guests at the Ricoh Arena.
